Email Seed List Accounts: Build Your Own Inbox Placement Panel

A seed panel build for marketers, ESP deliverability teams, agencies and consultants: how many Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail and Yahoo seed mailboxes to hold, how to read each provider's folders and tabs without training them, the inactivity rules that quietly kill seeds, and four panels priced at list.

Email seed list accounts: what a seed panel is, and when to own one

Email seed list accounts are mailboxes you control at Gmail, Outlook.com, Hotmail and Yahoo, added to your own consented campaigns so you can open each copy and see which folder or tab it reached. Your ESP tells you a message was accepted. A seed tells you where it went.

Deliverability teams at ESPs and brands keep their own panels, and so do agencies running client programs, consultants auditing a sender after a domain change, and newsletter operators with mostly consumer readers.

If a seed-testing tool already covers your list’s providers, you may not need to buy anything. Buy when you want a stable panel you run on your own schedule, weighted to your own subscribers.

One boundary first. A seed panel is not an address list. Seeds are mailboxes you own, and they only receive mail you already send to people who asked for it. Mailing a purchased list of other people’s addresses is spam, and nothing here supports it.

A starter panel at product minimums uses Mix Old (2023-2014) everywhere: 5 Gmail seeds at $2.50, 5 Outlook at $2.10, 10 Hotmail at $1.65 and 10 Yahoo at $1.50, which is 30 seeds for $54.50 at list. To order it, send “Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail and Yahoo, Mix Old (2023-2014), 5/5/10/10” to @nexkyc on Telegram or +1 (737) 307-6751 on WhatsApp. If you know your list’s provider split, send that too and we will weight the panel to it.

Why Postmaster Tools and your ESP report cannot tell you the folder

A “delivered” figure in your ESP means the receiving server accepted the message. It does not say whether that copy reached the inbox, a tab or the spam folder.

Google Postmaster Tools helps, within limits. Its spam rate counts mail that reached engaged users’ inboxes and was then reported as spam. If Gmail is filing much of your mail straight into spam, that rate can look healthy while the campaign quietly disappears. There is no per-message placement view, and on low-volume days the dashboards may not include all data.

Meeting Gmail’s sender guidelines keeps your mail from being rejected for non-compliance, but it does not tell you which tab you got. A seed you control gives you a direct reading of the folder.

Sizing the panel: weight seeds to your list’s provider mix

One seed in spam is noise. Several seeds at the same provider agreeing is a pattern you can act on. So hold several per provider, give more seats to the providers that hold more of your subscribers, and keep one grade per provider so a shift between tests points to your mail rather than to the panel.

Count your own list first. Export the addresses, group them by domain, and compare gmail.com and yahoo.com with the Microsoft group: outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com and msn.com. Microsoft serves Hotmail, Live and MSN addresses through Outlook.com, so an Outlook seed and a Hotmail seed read the same service. Choose on price and minimum: Hotmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.65 is the cheaper Microsoft seat with a minimum of 10, and Outlook Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10 fits when you want only 5. Consumer seeds do not stand in for company domains, so size this panel on the consumer domains.

Two worked shapes, both on Mix Old (2023-2014):

  • A Gmail-heavy B2C list. gmail.com is roughly half the file, yahoo.com comes next, and the Microsoft domains are small. Hold 10 Gmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.50, 5 Outlook Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10 and 10 Yahoo Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.50: 25 seeds, $50.50 at list.
  • A Microsoft-heavy list. The Microsoft domains together outnumber gmail.com. Hold 5 Gmail, 15 Microsoft and 10 Yahoo seeds, since 10 is Yahoo’s minimum. With 5 Outlook and 10 Hotmail Mix Old (2023-2014) in the Microsoft seats, that is the starter panel: 30 seeds, $54.50 at list. All 15 as Hotmail makes it $52.25.

Gmail seeds: reading Primary, Promotions and Updates

Gmail’s Default inbox sorts incoming mail into five categories: Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates and Forums. Keep each seed on the Default inbox with its categories on, so every Gmail seed shows the same tabbed view.

For every send, record one result per Gmail seed: Primary, Promotions, Updates, another tab, Spam, or missing. Then open the message, click More next to Reply, choose Show original and copy the header into your log.

Do not drag messages between tabs on a seed. Gmail learns that user’s preferences from a drag, and a trained seed stops describing untouched subscribers.

USA Old (2023-2014)$3.50US-origin seeds, by the same preference

Every grade is on the Gmail accounts page, with orders starting at 5.

Outlook and Hotmail seeds: Focused, Other and Junk

With Focused Inbox on, Outlook.com splits the inbox into Focused and Other tabs; the switch lives under Settings > Mail > Layout. Record Focused, Other, Junk or missing for each Microsoft seed.

Never use “Always move to Focused inbox” or “Always move to Other inbox” on a seed. That option covers all future mail from your sender, so every later test carries the bias. Leave messages where they land.

Microsoft ended Basic Authentication for Outlook.com accounts, Hotmail and Live included, on September 16, 2024, so a client that signs in with only a password no longer syncs. Read Microsoft seeds in the Outlook web app, or in a client set to OAuth2; Thunderbird offers it in place of Normal password. For scripted reading, register an application that signs in with OAuth2 instead of a stored password.

A domain sending more than 5,000 messages a day to Outlook.com, Hotmail and Live addresses must publish SPF and DKIM with both passing, publish DMARC, and align SPF or DKIM with the From domain, or the mail is rejected with 550 5.7.515. On a panel, that looks like every Microsoft seed reporting missing while your ESP log holds the bounce, so check the log before you blame filtering.

Outlook accounts, orders from 5:

  • New (Fresh PVA) at $1.25: short-lived Microsoft seeds for checks you plan to replace
  • Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10: the default Microsoft seat when you want only 5
  • UK IP Old at $3: UK-origin seeds, if your team prefers them
  • USA Old (2023-2014) at $3.30: US-origin seeds, by the same preference

Hotmail accounts, orders from 10:

  • New (Fresh PVA) at $0.99: the cheapest Microsoft seat, for one-off checks you plan to replace
  • Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.65: the cheaper aged Microsoft seat
  • EU IP Old at $2.30: EU-origin seeds, if your team prefers them
  • USA Old (2023-2014) at $2.75: US-origin Hotmail seeds

Yahoo seeds and the 12-month rule that silently empties a panel

Yahoo’s sender requirements ask bulk senders for both SPF and DKIM, a passing DMARC policy of at least p=none, and a one-click unsubscribe header.

New Yahoo Mail can sort the inbox into categories. If they are on, record Primary, Offers, Social or Newsletters; otherwise record Inbox. Also record Spam or missing. Leave the category setting as delivered, and log it.

The rule that catches panels is inactivity. A Yahoo mailbox nobody accesses for 12 months goes inactive: it stops receiving new email, and its messages, folders, contacts and settings are permanently deleted. Signing in to the Yahoo account does not count on its own. Someone has to open the mailbox itself.

A dead Yahoo seed shows your campaign as missing, which looks exactly like a block and can send you hunting for an authentication fault that does not exist.

Yahoo accounts, orders from 10:

  • New (Fresh PVA) at $0.65: disposable seeds for a one-off check
  • Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.50: the default Yahoo seed and the cheapest aged seat on the panel
  • EU IP Old at $2: EU-origin seeds, if your team prefers them
  • USA Old (2023-2014) at $2.75: US-origin seeds, by the same preference

Aged or fresh seeds: choosing a grade by how long it must last

A seed has none of your subscribers’ history with you, so it is weak at predicting tab placement that depends on how one subscriber has treated your mail. A seed in Promotions does not prove your most loyal readers see Promotions.

Inside that limit, grade is about lifespan. Aged grades suit a monitoring panel you keep for months; fresh grades suit cheap checks you expect to throw away, such as one test after moving DNS. Aged grades cost more, and on a seed panel you pay that for a seat you plan to keep, not for a truer reading. Regional grades are a preference, not a precision upgrade.

The default is Mix Old (2023-2014) on all four: $2.50 Gmail, $2.10 Outlook, $1.65 Hotmail and $1.50 Yahoo. For disposable checks, New (Fresh PVA) runs from $0.65 on Yahoo to $1.25 on Outlook.

Running a seed test on your own campaign, step by step

  1. Import the seeds into your ESP as a tagged segment. Add that segment to the real campaign, so seeds get the same From domain, subject, content and sending path as your subscribers. On a client’s program, add seeds to the client’s ESP account only after the client has agreed in writing to a seed panel of purchased accounts.
  2. Let the ESP generate individual messages. Seeds should receive the same individual message a subscriber gets, so add them as contacts rather than pasting them into To, CC or BCC.
  3. Read every seed after the send, in the web app, or in an OAuth2 client for Microsoft seeds.
  4. Log each result: provider, grade, folder, tab or Yahoo category, and headers.
  5. Repeat on a schedule, and again before a template redesign, a new sending domain or a DNS change.

Keeping seeds alive: a maintenance calendar

The shortest inactivity rule sets your calendar.

ProviderWhat keeps the account activePanel habit
GmailGoogle may delete an account inactive across Google for two years; reading or sending email countsReads during tests count, so log each date
Outlook and HotmailA sign-in to the Microsoft account at least once in a two-year periodLog a sign-in date for every seed
YahooOpening the mailbox itself at least once every 12 months; an account sign-in alone does not countOpen every Yahoo inbox, not just the account

The routine:

  • Delivery day: sign in to every seed once, exactly as delivered, before changing anything. Replacement runs for 7 days after delivery, so a fault found that day is covered and one found on day nine is not.
  • Same day: move credentials and recovery details from the delivery file into a password manager, and list each seed in a panel sheet with provider, grade and a last-read date.
  • Every test: update last-read for each seed you opened.
  • Each quarter: open any untouched seed, Yahoo first.

Add a spare seed or two per provider at the same grade to the same order, each at its list price on top of the totals above, so a lost seat can be swapped without changing the panel’s shape. Spares belong on the first order, because a later reorder starts at the product minimum. If a seed shows a lock or challenge instead of an inbox on its first sign-in, send us the login within the 7-day window and it is replaced. Never submit identity documents or selfies for a seed.

What a seed panel is not for

A panel measures placement. It must never change it. Seeds are not for:

  • Sending, replying, or acting as a sender in any campaign
  • Warmup networks or reply rings
  • Opening or clicking on a script to lift engagement numbers
  • Marking your own mail “Not spam”, dragging it into Primary, or setting “Always move to Focused inbox”
  • Receiving or mailing a purchased list of other people’s addresses

Microsoft’s and Yahoo’s terms make accounts non-transferable, so plan for any provider, Google included, to disable a seed. Use a tool’s seed list or panel data alongside yours for providers you do not seed, such as regional ISPs and business mail. The legal picture is in our compliance overview on buying accounts.

Testing signup, OAuth or password resets inside your own app is a different job with its own QA account stack. Campaign senders who want to know where mail lands should start from the priced panels above.

How MixAcc supplies a seed panel

Send the platform, variant and quantity for each provider, for example Gmail, Mix Old (2023-2014), 5, to @nexkyc on Telegram or +1 (737) 307-6751 on WhatsApp, or email allmixacc@gmail.com, and ask for the full-order rate on the multi-provider panel.

Minimums are 5 accounts on Gmail and Outlook and 10 on Hotmail and Yahoo. Every panel above is built at or above those minimums.

All MixAcc stock is created, never taken over from previous owners, and each seed arrives in a delivery file that lists its login and recovery details. Every grade carries a 7-day replacement window from delivery: if a seed fails its first sign-in, tell us and it is replaced, with no recording or ticket. Pay with crypto or card against an invoice.

Choose your grades on the Gmail accounts, Outlook accounts, Hotmail accounts and Yahoo accounts pages.

Questions we get a lot

What is an email seed list, and how is it different from buying an email list?
A seed list is a set of mailboxes you control at the providers your subscribers use, such as Gmail, Outlook.com, Hotmail and Yahoo. You add them to your own consented campaigns, then read each one to see which folder or tab the message reached. Seeds only receive. A purchased email list is the opposite: other people's addresses, mailed without their consent. That is spam, and it harms the sender reputation you are trying to measure. Owning seed mailboxes is a measurement setup. Never mail a bought list, from seeds or from anything else.
Can I build my own seed list instead of paying for a seed-testing tool?
Yes, and the two work well together. Your own panel is weighted to your list's provider mix and stays in place from one month to the next. A starter panel of 5 Gmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.50, 5 Outlook Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10, 10 Hotmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.65 and 10 Yahoo Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.50 comes to $54.50 at list. A tool still helps for providers you do not seed yourself. Hold a spare or two per provider as well: Microsoft's and Yahoo's terms make accounts non-transferable, and any provider, Google included, can disable a seed.
How many seed addresses do I need per provider?
Hold several at every provider you seed, so one odd result never decides anything, then give more seats to the providers that hold more of your list. Export your subscribers, group them by domain, and count outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com and msn.com together as Microsoft. A Gmail-heavy consumer list might run 10 Gmail, 5 Outlook and 10 Yahoo seeds on Mix Old (2023-2014), which is $50.50 at list. Outlook and Hotmail seeds both read Outlook.com, so choose between them on price and minimum. MixAcc minimums are 5 for Gmail and Outlook and 10 for Hotmail and Yahoo.
Should seed accounts be aged or new?
Choose by how long the seed has to last. Aged grades suit a monitoring panel you keep and compare over months: Gmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.50, Outlook Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10, Hotmail Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.65 and Yahoo Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.50. New (Fresh PVA) grades, from $0.65 on Yahoo to $1.25 on Outlook, suit one-off checks you expect to replace. Neither grade carries your subscribers' history with your brand, so neither one predicts tab placement that depends on engagement.
Why does my seed test show inbox while subscribers report Promotions or spam?
Seeds have no history with your mail. Gmail learns from how each user treats messages, for example when someone drags your newsletter into another tab, and a seed that never did anything gives a neutral reading. Seeds are good at spotting authentication failures, blocks and spam-folder placement, but placement for your most engaged or least engaged readers can differ from what a seed shows. When complaints and seed results disagree, check your ESP bounce log and Postmaster Tools, then ask a few affected subscribers which folder they see.
Should I open, click or mark 'not spam' on seed inboxes?
Open messages only to record the folder and copy the headers. Never click links to create engagement, never mark your own mail 'Not spam', never drag it into Primary, and never set 'Always move to Focused inbox' on an Outlook or Hotmail seed. Each of those teaches the provider something about that mailbox, and a trained seed no longer measures what an untouched subscriber sees. If a seed was trained by mistake, retire it and swap in a spare at the same grade. That is why spares belong on the first order: a later reorder starts at the product minimum.
Can I read Outlook.com and Hotmail seed inboxes over IMAP with a password?
No. Microsoft ended Basic Authentication for Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts on September 16, 2024, so mail clients that sign in with a password alone no longer sync. Read Microsoft seeds in the Outlook web app, or in a client set to OAuth2, which Thunderbird offers in its authentication setting. A script needs its own registered application using modern authentication. Outlook seeds start at 5 accounts, with Mix Old (2023-2014) at $2.10, and Hotmail seeds start at 10, with Mix Old (2023-2014) at $1.65.
How do I stop seed mailboxes going inactive?
Read every seed on a schedule and log the date. Yahoo is the strictest: a mailbox nobody accesses for 12 months stops receiving new mail and its contents are deleted, and signing in to the Yahoo account alone does not count, so open the inbox itself. Microsoft asks for a sign-in at least once in a two-year period, and Google may delete accounts inactive for two years, though reading email counts as activity. On delivery day, sign in to each seed exactly as delivered, because the 7-day replacement window runs from delivery.
